The Estate Planning Conference for Women (and the Men Who Love Them)
The Coleman Law Firm is proud to be one of the presenting sponsors at The Estate Planning Conference for Women (and the Men Who Love Them). The Conference is being hosted by The Cheryl Coleman Foundation for the Early Detection of Cancers and will benefit the Hill Breast Center in Jacksonville, Florida. The proceeds will be used to provide mammograms and other diagnostic testing for women who are uninsured, underinsured, or otherwise need financial assistance to obtain the diagnostic testing for cancer that they need. Other presenting sponsors include the New York Life Insurance Company's Jacksonville Region.

The Cheryl Coleman Foundation for the Early Detection of Cancers is a private foundation that I established to honor my wife, Cheryl, who now has survived ovarian cancer in 1994 and breast cancer this year. Over the past several years I have experienced many new clients who come to our law firm for estate planning to "get their affairs in order" because their cancer was discovered too late for effective treatment. In contrast, Cheryl has successfully survived both ovarian cancer and breast cancer because both were found early enough for her to receive effective treatment.
After doing a little research, I discovered just how important it is for women especailly, but for both men and women for all cancers, to detect the cancer at an early stage. Ninety-eight percent (98%) of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer when it is in State I are surviving after 5 years. If it is not detected until Stage IV, on 16% survive 5 years. Consider there are over 200,000 women in the U.S. each year who are diagnosed with breast cancer, and over 40,000 women in the U.S. will die this year from breast cancer, the need for early detection is clear. The numbers for all cancers are comparable.
The Cheryl Coleman Foundation for the Early Detection of Cancers will be focused on providing information about the importance of early detection of all cancers, the need for and value of mammograms and other diagnostic testing for the early detection of cancers, and raising funds to provide mammograms and other diagnostic testing for those who are unable to obtain such diagnostic testing because of financial reasons. No one should be denied the opportunity to defeat cancer because they don't have the funds to obtain a mammogram or other necessary diagnostic testing.
I hope you will join us in this endeavor. Please go the The Cheryl Coleman Foundation for the Early Detection of Cancers website and make a donation to the cause. Early detection saves lives!
